Bilateral facial symmetry refers to how closely the left and right sides of your face mirror one another across a vertical central axis. Our Face Symmetry Tester uses face-api.js (TensorFlow.js) to detect your face and map 68 canonical 2D facial landmarks across five structural zones: the Eyebrows (landmarks 18–27), Eyes (landmarks 37–48), Nose Bridge & Tip (landmarks 28–36), Lips & Mouth Corners (landmarks 49–68), and Cheekbone-to-Jaw Contour (landmarks 1–17).
To calculate your score objectively, the algorithm establishes a sagittal midline anchored through the glabella (between the brows), nasal bridge, philtrum, and chin pogonion. It then measures both horizontal distance ratios (how far each left landmark sits from the midline compared to its right counterpart) and vertical height alignment (whether one eye corner, brow arch, or lip corner sits slightly higher than the other). Each feature zone receives a 0–100% balance rating, which is weighted into your composite facial symmetry percentage.
Perfect 100% bilateral symmetry does not exist in human biology. Studies in craniofacial anthropometry show that nearly every human face exhibits natural 2–6% directional asymmetry caused by mastication (chewing side preference), sleeping posture, and normal bone development. Furthermore, a 2D photo test measures pixel projection rather than 3D CT bone structure. Results are for informational entertainment only, not medical or orthodontic advice.
All 68-landmark symmetry math executes locally inside your browser tab via WebAssembly and WebGL. Verify it yourself: open your browser DevTools (F12), click the Network tab, upload a photo, and see that no image request is ever sent to any server.
