About FaceAgeMeter

FaceAgeMeter is an independent suite of browser-based computer vision tools created to make facial landmark analysis — including perceived age estimation, face shape classification, bilateral facial symmetry measurement, and expression recognition — accessible to everyone without sacrificing personal privacy.

Who Built FaceAgeMeter

FaceAgeMeter is developed and maintained by the FaceAgeMeter engineering and editorial team. Most consumer face-scanning apps upload your selfies to remote cloud servers where biometric images may be cached, logged, or used for third-party model training. We built FaceAgeMeter to prove that modern client-side WebAssembly (WASM) and WebGL can deliver fast, transparent facial geometry analysis entirely on your own device.

How Our In-Browser Machine Learning Works

Every tool on FaceAgeMeter runs locally inside your web browser. Depending on the geometric task, we use two specialized open-weights vision pipelines:

  • 68-Point Facial Landmark & Neural Analysis (face-api.js / TensorFlow.js): Used by our AI Face Age Detector, Face Symmetry Tester, and AI Emotion Detector. It detects faces via SSD MobileNet v1, maps 68 canonical 2D landmarks across the eyebrows, eyes, nose bridge, lips, and jawline, and runs neural inference for perceived age, gender presentation, and 7 facial expressions.
  • 478-Point 3D Face Mesh (Google MediaPipe Face Landmarker): Used by our Face Shape Analyzer and Beauty Score Analyzer. MediaPipe maps 478 three-dimensional surface coordinates across the forehead, zygomatic arches (cheekbones), gonion (jaw corners), and chin to classify faces into Oval, Round, Square, Heart, Diamond, or Oblong shapes and evaluate geometric proportions.

Verify It Yourself: Open your browser's Developer Tools (F12 → Network tab), upload any photo into our tools, and inspect the network log. You will see zero image upload requests leave your browser.

Honest Accuracy & Limitations

Computer vision models estimate visual patterns from 2D pixels rather than biological chronological age or clinical craniofacial measurements:

  • Lighting & Shadows: Harsh overhead lighting deepens nasolabial and under-eye shadows, which can add 5–8 years to a perceived age estimate, while soft diffused front lighting reduces contrast.
  • Camera Focal Length: Smartphone front cameras at arm's length (24–28mm equivalent) introduce perspective distortion that makes the nose and center of the face appear wider relative to the jaw.
  • Head Pose & Expression: Even a 5-degree head tilt alters bilateral landmark distances in symmetry scores, and smiling shifts cheek and eye-corner contours.
  • Informational Entertainment Only: All results on FaceAgeMeter are provided strictly for informational and entertainment purposes. They are not medical, dermatological, or biometric identification assessments.
